We just had the pleasure of attending Mission to the World’s (MTW) “America’s Retreat” in Cancun, Mexico. We spent 9 days with missionaries from all over North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. This retreat is hosted in different locations every 4 years. It is a time to refocus, rejuvenate, and relax for the missionaries of MTW. Many of you are thinking, but why did y’all go? Are y’all not Campus Outreach? Yes we are. However, we are under the leadership and direction of MTW.
This time in Mexico was a great time to share successes, struggles, hurts, and doubts that most missionaries have in common. The realities of missing births, funerals, graduations, birthdays, and anniversaries. Missing the latest family gatherings, etc. Also it was a time to hear of salvations, church plants and growth, and disciples making disciples. We had great preaching, discipleship, and encouragement during our stay.
This time allowed us to do some things that we truly love doing as a family but have not done in 2 years. We went swimming in warm pools, swam in warm oceans, enjoyed warm beaches, and ate till our hearts content. We spent time with missionaries from 2 different continents and the Islands of the Caribbean. Our kids got to be kids, stay up late, run free without fears of cars, act in plays, sing, and fellowship with missionary kids their own ages. They were able to visit with friends from other countries they have not seen in years and spend time with the Dillon family (they are in the USA on Home Mission Assignment).
We were led daily in worship with some unbelievable musicians. Sandra McCracken, Timothy Nicholson, and Kevin J. Wit blessed us with hymns. Their words, prayers, and music inspired us. Despite bouts of illness on this trip, it was a great time and we returned to Cusco ready to continue God’s work. Below are some pictures from our trip.
In His Name,
Josh and Cindy
